Spotify Launches Spotify for Authors, a New Platform For Audiobook Authors & Publishers
Our story began in 2008, when we revolutionized music for fans and artists alike, growing to become the world's leading audio platform with 650 million listeners around the globe. We didn’t stop there—in 2019 we brought podcasts and music together into one intuitive platform. In 2022, we brought a la carte audiobooks to Spotify, and a year later opened a new chapter, launching Audiobooks in Premium. With over 300,000 titles—and counting—Spotify's ever-expanding catalog is made possible by the invaluable contributions of authors and publishers. As a result, publishers and authors are seeing that their books are now being discovered by new audiences through the audiobook format.
As our platform has expanded and evolved, we’ve developed tools to support the success of music artists with Spotify for Artists, and audio and video creators with Spotify for Creators. With audiobooks rapidly growing, we’re excited to welcome Spotify for Authors to the family, a new platform geared towards authors and publishers who want to manage and grow their audiobooks on Spotify.
We have worked alongside publishers to develop impactful tools that deliver better insights and growth tools for publishers and authors alike. For publishers, Spotify for Authors expands on the catalog management and royalty reporting offered in Passport. Our platform offers insights and analytics to help publishers better understand their audience and catalog consumption alongside promotional tools to help publishers enhance their presence on Spotify and expand their listener base.
For authors invited by publishers, Spotify for Authors will also offer direct access to industry-leading insights, as well as growth and promotional tools to help authors grow their listeners and catalog including:
- Aggregated age and gender demographics that provide more insight than ever before, revealing who is listening on Spotify
- Redemption codes to share royalty-free copies of titles with reviewers, superfans and collaborators, if enabled by the publisher .
- Promo cards to generate professional and shareable social assets for titles in just one click.
- Early access to author profiles, a new feature rolling out to Spotify in the future so fans can easily discover more about the authors behind the titles they love, right where they listen.
We have also dedicated a section of our new site with articles offering growth tips, author interviews and features, platform updates, and more.
Starting today, publishers have access to Spotify for Authors using their existing Passport login credentials. They can also request invitations for their authors directly through the platform. Independent authors, including users of Findaway Voices by Spotify, are expected to gain access early next year as we continue to expand.
Spotify for Authors marks a new chapter for the audiobooks industry and for Spotify. Just as Spotify for Artists and Spotify for Creators support artists, labels, podcasters, and networks, Spotify for Authors is here to empower authors and publishers at the heart of the audiobooks we love, with better tools and data to maximize their success on Spotify.
We are thrilled to welcome authors and publishers to your new home on Spotify, and to continue writing the rest of this story alongside you.
